To the Editor of Crofton Online:

My name is Percy Sussex, President of Crofton Meadows Homeowners association. You have not heard much about our Crofton Meadows Lake since the dredging outcry that said we did not do our job of protecting the Wildlife. Please note our community considers That body of water a lake NOT A DUCK POND.

I am not going into who said what or who did what. The job had to be done the community voted to dredge. The Wildlife were protected by friends of the ducks and fish. Nearly everyone of the people in your pictures were board members and there families and neighbors.

NO ducks died of botulism. The lake has been cleaned and it has filled up to its natural level. While empty several thing were done to make periodic cleaning of sludge easy. Shelters were buried at the bottom along with deep wells to provide shelters for spawning of the fish. Fountains are on order to beautify and aerate the water. The entire bank and surrounding landscape has been dressed for the enjoyment and recreation of everyone.

A walkway is beginning to wind around the lake for walking, jogging or biking. The board understands people get upset and we just wanted to keep peace in the community and did not lash out the negatives.

I know you wrote what you felt was correct, but I see you are still carrying the same stories online months after the dredging has been completed. Don't you think it is time to move on?

We hope to have the fountains in by April 1. Why don't you update the Lake story with new pictures? You may print this if you wish.

Hi. Thanks for writing.

I agree that an updated story and pictures are needed. I'm behind on everything right now (we had a death in the family), but I will try to get to this soon. If you'd like to help, you could write it up and submit pictures. I'd be happy to print them. I'll also print your letter.

I'll have to go back and read what I wrote, but as I recall, I said that the lack of fencing around the lake during the dredging was a safety hazard. Someone must have agreed, because shortly thereafter fencing was put up.

I believe I also printed an interview or two with residents whose property backed up to the pond. The opinions they expressed were their own. In addition, I published each and every letter or comment we received on this and all other subjects. I received a lot of compliments on our coverage.

If you look at Crofton Online carefully, you will see that everything I have published is still available online. Libraries carry back issues of magazines; they don't throw them away when a new issue is published. Until I run out of space on our servers, I intend to leave past issues online. It is not an issue of "moving on."

The lake looks great now. I'll try to make it down there this weekend to get some new pictures.

By the way, one of the newsletters a while back listed a web address that was supposed to have up to date information on it. I tried many times, but was never able to access it. What happened to that? Is it still available?

Again, thanks for writing and keeping me informed.
