'Duck Ladies' Speak Out:
'Consensus, Education, Supervision Needed
at Local Duck Pond'
The Crofton Meadows community must reach a consensus about how the Aberdeen Drive Duck Pond should be used, say two long time Crofton residents.
Then we need to educate some residents about proper respect for animals, humans, and property.
And finally, we need supervision and enforcement to make sure that rules are being followed.
As ducks continue to die at area ponds, dredging of the Aberdeen Drive Duck Pond in Crofton Meadows is scheduled to begin soon. What will happen to the fish, ducks, turtles, and other wildlife during the dredging process?
How can we balance the needs of the animals with the rights of the residents whose property borders on the pond, and with the recreational needs of the community at large?
To try to get some answers, Crofton Online recently interviewed Joyce Yore and Lois Heuer, known to some residents as the 'Duck Ladies.' These women expressed serious concerns not only about the ducks, but also about the health of the pond in general and all the wildlife there.
