Candidate Richard considers herself to be a business-friendly candidate. "Today's businesses require highly educated employees," she said, noting that good schools are a major consideration when a business decides where to locate. Richard grew up in this area and attended Arundel High School. Both of her children are also Arundel High School graduates. |

Ms. Richard supports the concept of the Maryland School Performance Assessment program: testing higher order thinking skills. As a teacher, however, she has concerns about MSPAP. Richard feels that administration of the test has become "burdensome" for teachers. In addition, classroom teachers get the results way too late to help them identify individual weaknesses. Students know that the test is being used to evaluate schools, not students, and therefore don't always take it as seriously as they should, she said. She also objected to the fact that absent students are given zeros on the test. Richard says she will "work hard" for a clean, safe environment. She feels that the "quality of life" is one of the main reasons people choose to live in the Crofton area. As a delegate she says she will work to preserve farmland and our streams and rivers. Growth must be planned and should include provisions for new roads and schools, she said. Back to Crofton Online. |
