Crofton Online: Move On
Flood of Anti-Impeachment Email Crashes Congressional Servers;
300,000 More Messages In Limbo
MoveOn.org Hand Delivers Petitions to House Members
The flood of anti-impeachment email, phone calls, and faxes sent to Capital Hill in Washington, DC increased dramatically following the conclusion of the House Judiciary Committee hearings headed by Republican Henry Hyde. The volume of email was so great that Congressional servers could not handle the load, leaving an additional 300,000 anti-impeachment messages undelivered.
At a press conference called by the internet-based anti-impeachment lobbying group MoveOn.org, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (above) used boxes containing petitions as a podium to blast congressional Republicans, calling their efforts nothing short of a "coup attempt" to topple a democratically elected government.
Following the address by Congresswoman Lee, MoveOn.org co-founder Wes Boyd told the assembled press that 40,000 additional signatures were added to his group's anti-impeachment petition in one day, bringing the total to almost 400,000. Boyd promised that his group would be increasing its activities, regardless of how the House vote turned out.
Boyd was joined by representatives from People for the American Way and Working Assets, a long distance telephone service provider that donates money and services to progressive causes. All endorsed an anti-impeachment prayer vigil and rally to be held on the west side of the Capital Building beginning at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 17.

As these words are being written, the President has ordered a military strike against Iraq for its continued refusal to abide by United Nations resolutions requiring it to give up its weapons of mass destruction. This action brought a heavy dose of reality to the fantasy world created by the inside-the-beltway crew of Republicans and tabloid media pundits pushing for impeachment. As a result, the impeachment vote originally scheduled for Thursday, December 17 has been postponed. We will keep you informed of developments. Please note that the anti-impeachment rally scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday will still be held as planned, however. The event will begin at 10:00 AM on the west side of the Capital Building.
