Black Votes Don't Count, Says Baltimore Sun

Germond's "News Analysis" Uses Racism To Discount Polls

Keeping up its assault on the presidency and other American democratic institutions, the tabloid Baltimore Sun (B.S.) published an incredible attack on African Americans today [September 22], claiming that black votes don't count as much as those of regular Americans.

In an article labeled "news analysis" but published in its news section, B.S. columnist Jack Germond claimed that the polls showing overwhelming support of the President and rejection of the media's handling of the Pressgate scandal are being "skewed by the extraordinary backing he is receiving from black Americans."

Germond's blatantly racist remarks were part of a campaign by the B.S. to convince politicians they are safe in pursuing impeachment against the President.

All indications are the exact opposite. Every scientific opinion poll shows that public outrage at the tabloid media and its 'Christian' Coalition allies in the Republican party is growing, not declining. The B.S. has invested every bit of its rapidly dwindling influence in its faltering campaign against the President.

The polls clearly show that elected Republicans everywhere will pay a heavy political price in the November elections for allowing their party to be taken over by fundamentalists Pat Robertson, and Kenneth Starr.

Since Republicans can't even come close to the votes needed for impeachment, the only hope remaining for the B.S. is to pressure Mr. Clinton to resign by continuing to badger and embarrass him. The fact that they are doing serious damage to our nation's image abroad and to cherished American institutions is irrelevant to the B.S., which only cares about maintaining its political hold on the state of Maryland.
