Baltimore Sun Shifts Tactics in Verbal Assault on United States
Front Page Editorials Attempt To Set Trap for President
In another front page editorial labeled as news, the Baltimore Sun (BS) today [September 15] announced that a low voter turnout in the primary will mean the public wants the President out of office. This fantasy represents another incredible leap of logic as 'reporters' for the BS bury their heads even deeper in the sand.
Desperate for some shred of evidence to bolster its sagging credibility with Maryland residents, the BS continues to ignore opinion polls clearly showing the public's rejection of the 'coup attempt' by a self-serving alliance between the tabloid media and Republican Kenneth Starr.
Although turnout for the primary is traditionally low, Democrats will have an opportunity to register their disgust with Parris Glendening without having to vote for Ellen Sauerbrey. No one is actively running against Glendening in the primary, but several individuals remain on the ballot. If the total vote for Glendening drops substantially even with no active opposition, the Governor will "get the message," according to political analysts.
Also on the front page, the BS joined the rest of the tabloid media in attempting to set a trap for the President, arguing that he has no right to defend himself against the false charges brought by Republican Starr.
The President need only think back a few weeks to understand the plan. In response to media demands that he go on national TV to apologize, the President did so. The tabloids then tried to use his words against him. Although the public overwhelmingly accepted the apology and agreed that the nation should move on, the tabloids widely and falsely proclaimed that he had admitted to perjury, then upped the ante, demanding further humiliation.
Mr. Clinton did not commit perjury, nor did he make a serious attempt to deceive the public. Should the President acquiesce to the tabloids and give up his right to defend himself legally, the BS and others will then demand impeachment based solely on the President's 'admission,' without having to prove anything.
Although we know it is degrading to endure this journalistic onslaught, Mr. President, we ask that you again put public service first by hanging tough. This battle with the BS and the rest of the tabloid media is a bloody fight to the finish with the United States, and we need your continued help and leadership.
