With public opinion of the national news media at an all time low [its ratings have dropped from 'on par with used car salesmen' to a new low--one rung below lawyers] "journalists" have seized upon Al Gore's selection of Joseph Lieberman as his running mate as a possible way to save their reputations, and by extension, their jobs.
After wasting a year of the national attention (not to mention hundreds of millions of dollars) in their failed attempt to destroy the Clinton agenda, the media has finally realized the inevitability of a resounding reaffirmation of that same agenda by the voters in this fall's national elections. Some accounts even show the Democrats taking control of both houses of Congress, as well as holding onto the White House.

Rather than acknowledging the widely expected Gore victory as an obvious rejection of the media's central thesis--that it should have the power to override national elections--national tabloid journalists at the Baltimore Sun (B.S.), ABC News, MSNBC, and the rest, immediately tried to cover their bets--and their asses--by attempting to decree that Gore's selection was a rejection of Clinton. If Gore loses, they reason, it is because of his association with Clinton. If Gore wins, it is because he has distanced himself from Clinton by picking Lieberman. Either way, the media is going to try to claim vindication for its outrageous reporting. The fact remains that it is going to take many years to undo the damage done to the United States by the despicable actions of the media conglomerates in their attempt to outsleaze the Internet. From now on, Secret Service agents are required to provide complete details in writing and in public testimony, on every action of the President and his family and senior staff members. From now on, anyone, ANYONE! can sue the President of the United States and demand that the President appear in court or be jailed! This applies to every future President, regardless of party. The first job of the new Congress should be to overturn these precedents. Thankfully, none of the judicial decisions were labelled "constitutional" by the Supreme Court, so simple legislation will do the trick. Then Congress should, by statue, fire the special prosecutor and stop all payments to the ever expanding bureacracy he has created at taxpayer expense. REMINDER: Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest and Robert Ehrlich both voted for impeachment. Congressmen Ben Cardin and Steny Hoyer both voted no (as did Senator Joseph Lieberman). [As a result of gerrymandering engineered by then-Governor Schaefer as part of a political deal, Crofton voters are divided among four different congressional districts.] |
