Dear Mr. President; Honorable Senators Congressmen - Elected Officials* Can someone tell me for I would like to know: why these matters concerning Jones and Lewinsky are more important than I am? Why is the possibility that one man, elected, like you all were, who provides unchallenged leadership to the country and the world, told a lie - more important than the collective lies our government tells the people who pay the bills? When does the possibility of a single, personal irrelevant truth of one individual about his private life become more important than the collective lies told by those who sit in the seats of the elected? They lie in the promises of equal rights, affirmative action, the war on drugs and they lie about the power of the people because the people say WE DO NOT REALLY CARE about the sexual freedoms adults choose to enjoy - if those adults do not live in our homes or invalidate our government. Yet our government would have us believe that they cling to the Constitution in spite of the voice of the people who cry MOVE ON. For I wonder, what about me? My taxes are too high; my civil rights are not protected; my ability to be respected is challenged in the land of the free and my rights are violated every day in the halls of justice and law and often by the same people who now say a lie or the possibility thereof outweighs the fact that the government of the people; by the people, and for the people is not working in my best interest. There is crack in our community. We did not bring it here. Single families and working people cannot afford to pay rent in decent housing. There is disparity in our public schools. Destruction on our street corners make a peaceful sleep a dream deferred. The poor become poorer and health care for children and food for families are placed on the agenda of someday. Enough I say about bill and paula and monica too because linda also broke the law. We cannot depend on laws lawmakers and lawyers now that they fail to rally behind, and to protect the voice of the people who say - Move On. If we must examine a breech it is the breech which exploits our expectations of maturity and allows us to settle fights which result from selfish ambition. It is the breech we recognize as we wait for age old promises of the Constitution - like equal rights and due process to have some basis in fact. We watched patiently as those who wear the governmental robes of authority have made private affairs public displays not of a single man's weaknesses but of a collective self-righteousness which causes the Constitution to lose its significance in the face of egotism, jealousy and pride as our elected officials, the people we pay, table the discussions that could change our world. OH! the flag in all its glory is torn by those who swore they would serve the nation and the people. Instead they daily provide and encourage the distractions and sensationalism which would minimize the very tenets of truth; for the energies of our government today are mere distractions by which no children will be fed; no medical remedies found; no financial problems will be resolved; by which no peace will be established and by which the government of the people and for the people is rhetoric and not reality. Oh, if America only recognized how the history it makes embarrasses us for WE ARE THE PEOPLE. But history will also record how easily the government of the people has been distracted from the challenges which demand adult, mature, wise, focused leadership. If the government were of the people; spoke for the people and was an example of wise and capable leadership then the issues of our day would guide and direct us to the solutions which would help to make us whole MOVE ON! |
